USB to RS232 / RS422 / RS485

A USB to RS232, RS422, or RS485 converter is a device that allows a computer to communicate with serial devices that use one of these three serial communication standards. A USB to RS232, RS422, or RS485 converter is a device that allows a computer to communicate with serial devices that use one of these three serial communication standards. These converters are typically plugged into a computer's USB port, and provide one or more serial ports for connecting to serial devices.

The reason for using a USB to serial converter instead of a serial card is that many modern computers, such as laptops, tablets and some desktop computers, no longer have serial ports. USB ports, on the other hand, are commonly found on all types of computers, making USB to serial converters a more versatile solution for connecting to serial devices.

In addition to their ease of use, USB to serial converters also offer other advantages over serial cards. For example, they are typically smaller and can be connected externally where a serial card has to be built in and mounted in a notebook, which can be useful in service situations where you have to connect to a serial device on the move (PLC, Energy meter, Heat meter, Alarm system or other equipment with RS232/RS422/485 interface. They also typically do not require any additional power supply as they draw power from the USB port, which can make them more convenient to use.

Another advantage of USB to serial converters is that they often come with drivers and software that make them easy to install and configure. This can be especially useful for people who are not familiar with configuring serial cards, or who need to quickly connect to a serial device without spending a lot of time on configuration.

The USB to serial converter works by translating the USB signals from the computer to the appropriate signals for the serial device and vice versa. This allows the computer to send and receive data from the serial device as if it were connected directly to a serial port on the computer.

USB to serial converters are commonly used to connect computers to various types of industrial equipment, such as sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and other devices that use serial communication. They are also used to connect older serial devices to modern computers that no longer have serial ports.

Disadvantages of USB to RS232/422/485

This type of converter cannot be used with dongles (hardware lock to software) as the COM port appears as virtual, which is not accepted by dongles. Drivers for the OS are included. Does not occupy IRQ, DMA or I/O port - COM ports can be "remapped"
